Wise and Motivating Words

I recently purchased a rather amusing book because sometimes, cute and fluffy lines don’t really motivate me no matter how motivating they are. Sometimes I need something a little more brusque and honest. In my honest opinion, this book is amazing.

I asked my husband for a number from 1 – 207. Of course this man, who is a fully fledged adult, chose 69. As it turns out, it was a phenomenal bit of advice for the both of us.

We will most certainly be following this advice because quite honestly, spite can help one to achieve success much more than sweet, flowery, and uplifting lines across pretty backgrounds that we all to often see show up on our social media feeds. It brings me personal joy to show people that they were wrong and that I can, in fact, achieve amazing things despite what they think or my personal struggles at that moment.

You can achieve your dreams and never let anyone tell you otherwise! Do it for yourself, do it for your future, and do it out of spite if you must.

Pyrite

Birthstone: N/A
Meaning: Abundance
Chakras: All Chakras
Zodiac: Taurus, Leo
Planet: Sun, Mars
MOH’s Scale: 6-6.5
Element: Fire, Earth
God/Goddess: All sun gods, Ra, Inti, Sol, Suryadev, Huitzilopochtli, Amaterasu Ōmikami
Anniversary Gift: N/A

The mineral pyrite or iron pyrite, also known as fool’s gold, is an iron sulfide. It has a golden-yellow metallic shine and color, mimicking the tone of real gold. Pyrite is the most abundant sulfide mineral. Pyrite’s metallic luster and pale brass-yellow hue give it a superficial resemblance to gold, hence the well-known nickname of fool’s gold. While brass-yellow is its usual color, it shows many inclusions of silver, black, brown, red, orange, green, and blue colors.

The name pyrite is derived from the Greek πυρίτης λίθος (pyritēs lithos), ‘stone or mineral which strikes fire’, in turn from πῦρ (pŷr), ‘fire’. The crystal was mostly known for its fire-starting abilities at the time. In ancient Roman times, this name was applied to several types of stone that would create sparks when struck against steel; Pliny the Elder described one of them as being brassy, almost certainly a reference to what is now called pyrite. By 1550, the term had become a generic term for all of the sulfide minerals.

Pyrite is the most common of sulfide minerals and is widespread in igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks, as well as in coal beds and as a replacement mineral in fossils, but has also been identified in the sclerites of scaly-foot gastropods. It is a common accessory mineral in igneous rocks, where it also occasionally occurs as larger masses arising from an immiscible sulfide phase in the original magma. It is found in metamorphic rocks as a product of contact metamorphism. It also forms as a high-temperature hydrothermal mineral, though it occasionally forms at lower temperatures.

Pyrite usually forms cuboid crystals, sometimes forming in close association to form raspberry-shaped masses called framboids. However, under certain circumstances, it can form anastomosing filaments or T-shaped crystals. Pyrite can also form shapes almost the same as a regular dodecahedron, known as pyritohedra, and this suggests an explanation for the artificial geometrical models found in Europe as early as the 5th century BC.

Iron pyrite is unstable when exposed to the oxidizing conditions prevailing at the Earth’s surface: iron pyrite in contact with atmospheric oxygen and water, or damp, ultimately decomposes into iron oxyhydroxides and sulfuric acid. Pyrite oxidation is sufficiently exothermic that underground coal mines in high-sulfur coal seams have occasionally had serious problems with spontaneous combustion.

Pyrite is widely distributed from Peru, Namibia, Spain, Mexico, Canada, Italy, Kazakhstan, and the United States. Rio Tinto, Spain stands out for its abundant pyrite resources. It has one of the largest reserves in the world. Elba is an Italian island that has made quite a name for itself due to its large and impressive pyrite crystals. It’s one of the places renowned for this geological phenomenon.

Pyrite jewelry has been used for 4,000 years, everything from rings, bracelets, and talismans dating back to 2600 B.C. and it’s no surprise many ancient cultures associate this crystal with sun deities, spirits, and Gods. Native Americans regarded Pyrite as the Stone of Wealth, much like ancient Egyptian, Hindu, Norse, Incan, Aztec, and Japanese cultures.

In ancient Greece and Rome, it was a Stone of Protection. Pyrite brings clarity and facilitates higher knowing while opening the mind. Psychics and seers at the time used it for divination.

Pyrite is used with flintstone and a form of tinder made of stringybark by the Kaurna people of South Australia, as a traditional method of starting fires.

In the beliefs of the Thai people, pyrite is believed to be a sacred item that has the power to prevent evil, black magic or demons.

It was also part of mirrors in the Middle Ages and jewelry in the Victorian Era.

Pyrite has been used since classical times to manufacture copperas (ferrous sulfate). Iron pyrite was heaped up and allowed to weather (an example of an early form of heap leaching). The acidic runoff from the heap was then boiled with iron to produce iron sulfate. In the 15th century, new methods of such leaching began to replace the burning of sulfur as a source of sulfuric acid. By the 19th century, it had become the dominant method.

Pyrite enjoyed brief popularity in the 16th and 17th centuries as a source of ignition in early firearms, most notably the wheellock, where a sample of pyrite was placed against a circular file to strike the sparks needed to fire the gun.

During the Gold Rush in California, many gold hunters were tricked by Pyrite. Real gold is found in Pyrite, but in a negligible amount. It’s called invisible gold.

Pyrite remains in commercial use for the production of sulfur dioxide, for use in such applications as the paper industry, and in the manufacture of sulfuric acid.

Pyrite Sun Disc

Pyrite is the stone of abundance and prosperity. Once again, it is ‘fool’s gold’ and known as a stone of luck, blessings, and manifestation, especially with regards to wealth and prosperity. The best way to attract prosperity with pyrite is by charging it with the early morning sun then placing it in your wallet or purse. Sunlight energizes the stone with vital life force energy, while moonlight infuses it with more gentle and intuitive powers.

Pyrite is a balancing stone that helps you stop the mind chatter and negative self-talk. You’ll find it easier to focus on work or career with a charged pyrite by your side. Besides improving mental clarity, pyrite enhances foresight, intuition, and awareness. Pyrite lights the inner fire. It makes you optimistic, hopeful, and confident by having a positive outlook in life. Wearing pyrite jewelry or keeping pyrite stones in shared spaces can create an atmosphere of positivity and harmony among people.

Witch Tip: The best way to light your inner fire with Pyrite is by charging it with Fire energy. Pyrite is also thought to enhance mental clarity and focus, making it an excellent companion for tasks that require concentration and problem-solving. Charge the crystal with positive affirmations or intentions to help you concentrate before placing it on your work desk. Pyrite will unblock your creative energies and increase self-confidence and enthusiasm. To further enhance your workplace, pyrite will help you to manage challenging situations.

It activates Kundalini energy and helps you to feel stronger, healthier, and more powerful when pyrite activates the life force inside you. It brings confidence, assertiveness, and grounding while increasing energy to overcome fatigue. Activate Pyrite by keeping it under sunlight for about five minutes. Next, place it on your pelvic area to activate the kundalini energy.  You can also activate Pyrite for spiritual transformation by charging it with the healing sounds of singing bowls. For this, place the crystal next to the bowl when playing it.

Spiritually, pyrite is associated with grounding and protection. It is believed to create a shield of energy around the user, guarding against negative influences and energies.  It will help you see behind a façade and clear out negative vibrations. Pyrite will activate all seven of the body’s chakras as well as unblock the Sacral and Solar Plexus Chakras. Pyrite aligns with the Solar Plexus and Sacral chakras, promoting physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being by cleansing, clearing, activating, and stimulating the activity of the Solar Plexus Chakra.

In terms of Feng Shui, pyrite can be placed in the northeast and southwest corners of a home for Earth energy associated with love, relationships, education, and abilities, bringing in lots of positive energy. It can also be placed in the south of a home for Fire energy associated with warmth, excitement, and well-being, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Placing pyrite strategically in your home can bring positive energy and prosperity. To incorporate pyrite into your home, consider placing tumbled pyrite stones in decorative bowls or creating pyrite crystal grids. Pyrite clusters or pyrite-infused candles can add an elegant touch to your interior while promoting positive energies. You can keep a pyrite paperweight on your desk or carry a small pyrite pocket stone in your pocket or purse. These subtle yet effective ways of using pyrite can enhance focus, productivity, and self-assurance throughout the workday.

This is a beautiful and powerful mineral known for its protective properties, encouraging inner strength and unlocking your warrior energy. Pyrite is a powerful tool for healing and transformation.

Pyrite stimulates creative energies and nurtures fresh ideas, enhancing your self-confidence to speak your mind. It improves creative thoughts, discussions, and answers as well as clearing out toxic thinking. It helps you discover spiritual destiny, besides boosting self-reflection, awareness, and contemplation for karmic therapy.

Pyrite is also considered a stone of manifestation, helping one to turn their dreams and desires into reality by attracting abundance and prosperity, especially if they’re part of your spiritual destiny. After charging it with fire energy, set a manifestation grid with pyrite in the center. Use it as a great meditation or divination tool. Pyrite has been regarded as a stone of protection and connection to the divine in various cultures. Some people use pyrite during prayers or meditation to enhance their spiritual experiences and foster a deeper relationship with the higher realms.

It will enhance your memory so it can be helpful to carry it with you when you are studying or when you are taking an exam. This is an excellent stone for overcoming anxiety and depression because it helps you to gradually let go of irrational anxieties and to replacing them with empowerment, emotional stability, and self-assurance. Pyrite will help keep the user spiritually and emotionally safe.

As a stone of protection and centering, it has a defending/preventing quality. It shields one from many forms of negative energy as well as protects from harm and danger. Pyrite encourages strength and reawakens the senses.

Decluttering your sacred space will declutter your mind

Mental health is difficult and depression and other mental conditions can take one Hell of a toll on our sacred spaces. They can become cluttered and unmanageable. According to a study conducted by the Princeton Neuroscience Institute, having multiple visual stimuli present within range of one’s view will result in those stimuli competing for neural representation. In layman’s terms, the more clutter you can see, the more easily you’ll find yourself distracted. For some of us, clutter can be downright debilitating.

Decluttering can mentally prepare us for other activities. It clears the physical space so we can partake in the activity. It provides us with a sense of accomplishment which translates into motivation. It gives us time to think about or organize the activity in which we are about to engage.

For me, it is hard for me to do things unless the area around me is clean. My mental health suffers in clutter. I literally cannot allow myself to do a ritual or practice or sometimes even craft project unless the space I am working on is a certain way. My home is my sacred space. Being able to function properly and live the magical life I want becomes difficult when my home becomes cluttered. My husband laughs at me when I tell him I need to relax and then I start cleaning. Cleaning relaxes me and the sense of satisfaction I get afterwards is both rewarding and inspiring for new activities.

Try to only focus on clearing the space necessary for your current project and set a timer to do it quickly. Avoid the trap of making the organizing or clearing process the goal activity. For some, (being organized) is all about being productive. For others, it’s all about being neat or being able to find what you need when you want it.

Some feel overwhelmed because they let their home, their sacred space, become so cluttered and messy they feel guilty and don’t even want to be at home. If this is you, it’s ok! It happens to all of us. Why can’t I keep my home as clean as so and so? People judge my home? I can’t stop hoarding! All of these are completely valid but so is your sacred space. Think of that age old question: How do you eat an elephant? The answer: one bite at a time. Start small. A night stand, a drawer, one surface, and then set an alarm. Light a candle to help give you that fresh pretty smell of clean when you start and then get to it.

Witch Tip: Light a candle in the color or scent that matches your intentions.

If you do it once a day, eventually, that mess your brain froze up on tackling will be gone. Will it come back? Perhaps. But if you continue your 5 minute speed clean sessions each day, the mess will be smaller, less often, and less debilitating in the future.

With a cleaner sacred space, practicing your craft will become much more easy, fun, and enjoyable to do. Best of luck witchlings!

Nightly Checklist For Mental Health

Habits are hard to form and life is absolute chaos. I found a checklist on Pinterest to use as my base for creating this one. These are the big things I try to remember to do before I climb into bed. I hate more than anything when I get the house ready for bed and then when I am under the covers, I realize I forgot to do something.

I did add ‘do something magical’ for the sole reason that I work hard to be the very best witchling that I can be but some days, I just can’t do anything or I forget to and get distracted. I always feel better when I do even just a little something so this is reminder to draw a tarot card or cleanse a crystal or even just read a page or two of one of my many books on the practice.

These are a few simple things that will take about 20 minutes tops but will help towards supporting your life and your mental health. I’ve been following it for a while and it has really helped me out a lot. I leave it taped to the bathroom mirror as my reminder that I can’t brush my teeth until I have done these things. And I NEVER EVER go to bed without brushing my teeth. Feel free to print it out as many times as you need or laminate it like I did. A dry erase marker works great on lamination plastic! If it helps even one person, then it was worth posting!

Mental health is more important than prestige

Unpopular opinion: You don’t have to constantly be reaching for the next achievement level to be happy.

I feel like not enough people understand this fact and it is very important to your happiness. We are often pushed and pushed to be the best we can be 100% of the time but if we give 100%, we will become burnt out, exhausted, and that 100% will drop to dangerous levels when we have to pick ourselves back up. We begin to feel shame and embarrassment that we aren’t where we SHOULD be but honestly, there is no SHOULD.

It isn’t embarrassing to live at home. I love my parents and I know that if I weren’t in the job I am in now, I probably couldn’t live on my own and I would be at home. I would also have no shame at that. I love my mother and am lucky enough to have an incredible parental figure in my life. Not everyone can afford a house or an apartment depending on the city or state that you live in. Not everyone has that familial support. Single parents have it even worse what with needing to afford childcare on top of everything else. Childcare can often go for $10K a year or more. I know I don’t have a separate $10K a year to put towards something. Life is hard and there is no need to make it harder by trying to ‘keep up with the Joneses’.

While I would love a promotion, I also won’t kill myself over not having received it. I want to be happy and an additional promotion will also mean a lot more responsibilities and taking work home with me at times. My mother made sure to stay at a certain level when we were kids so that she would always be available to us in the evenings. She only began taking promotions at her job once we were older and more after we had moved out of the house. She became very successful but in her own time. Family was most important to her and she weighed the benefits and cons to decide how long she wanted to work and what level of stress she was willing to deal with.

As a practitioner of the craft, I know I could be better. I have memory loss issues, meaning I have difficulty remembering even basic parts of my practice some days. This is everything from the order of the Wheel of the Year, to the colors associated with the cardinal directions, and all the way to the meaning of herbs and crystals. It is why I write it all down for quick reference and honestly, that writing is what helped to inspire this blog. I hope that people around me are able to benefit from my notes and thoughts on the practice, from brand new just out of the broom closet and all the way to well practiced multigenerational witches.

I don’t like to be upset over the memory loss or my depression and personal traumas because it doesn’t add anything to my life. Some days are easier than others. At this point, I honestly just want to be happy and be around people that make me happy. And if that means not working extra hours and striving for a position that stresses me out, leaving me exhausted when I go home to my family, then that is what I will do.

May is mental health awareness month and I hope that every single person who reads this takes a moment to think about what makes them happy and what they can do to achieve it that doesn’t have to do with stressing themselves out or gaining positions that will take them away from their joys. Sometimes it may be difficult, may even seem impossible, but I am sure you will figure it out. Happiness is worth it! A tarot reading for clarification and a happiness spell may be just what you need to step forward into your future!

Work/Life/Craft Balance

Work/life/spiritual balance is important. You need all of those things to not just survive, but to thrive! Sometimes we get caught up in our jobs and even bring the drama and stress home to our families. They don’t deserve that and neither do you. I made it a rule a few years ago that I would NEVER bring work home unless it was actually important and thus far, I have held true to that. I have brought it home maybe a handful of times in the last 3 years. Significantly better than what I was doing with it a few times a week. I would stress and stress and it wasn’t good for my mental health.

Additionally, taking care of my home self is just as important. What I bring home to my family can adversely affect them as well. Anxiety and depression are major issues in our household and unfortunately hit us hard at times. But what about when we are exhausted and never seem to do anything anymore? Reverse that. Get up and do it. Even if you are tired, even if you would rather lay on the couch all day scrolling Facebook or Instagram, reverse it. There are a million things to do in the city you live in, places to eat, and experiences to be had. Even if you are tired, you will be happy you went! It gets easier over time and pretty soon, you will find yourself out and about and doing the things you love with the people you love! My husband was exhausted but we still drove over an hour to go to this little bakery in a town right next to ours that had banana cheesecakes. I wanted one so badly! We played fun music, did sing alongs, quizzed each other on artists, had some really good deep discussions, and even encouraged each other….. only to get there and they had just sold out of the last one! I was definitely disappointed but also, we had a good time. The bakery had tons of other delicious things so we got those instead. Their garlic cream cheese for the bagel was literally the best I have ever had in my life. My Bestie agreed because I brought some back for her. When we tried to leave, a train of railroad cleaners had stopped all traffic so we wound up sitting there for a good 10 minutes debating how the machines were going to be used. All in all, we had a good time and laugh about it. Even though we were tired and still missed out on something, the experience gave us fond memories which improves our relationship and also brings us mental joy and clarity, living in the moment, and remembering why we married each other.

Being too tired to do your Craft is also common in today’s society. We get home and don’t have the mental fortitude to do anything, let alone spells and rituals. Kind of like the life balance thing, just do it. Even if it means reading one page from a book a night, or placing an offering on your altar, maybe even just smudging the house or simply lighting incense to clear the air, that is still doing something. And you should be proud that you did it! Each of those steps are going to ensure you are able to stay active in your Craft so when you do have energy, your mind will not be stagnant on what to do. You will have done small things regularly which can then set you up for holidays or rituals!

In conclusion; life is hard and we have to have the discipline to purposefully make it a joy sometimes. But it can be done! So get out there an do it!

Declutter your Mind and Altar

Welcome back witches! Spring is coming and now is the perfect time take a look at your home, your altar, and your mind. Decluttering all of these things can give you a refreshing start. I have donated 2 full porches of things this year already and my house still looks cluttered. That means I have far too much STUFF. Stuff does not help you. Stuff will hinder you. It should mean something to you or be useful. ‘In case of” items need to go. Boxes need to go. Your phone should be cleared of pics that clog it up and keep you from viewing images you want to see and are actively looking for. Your computer tabs should be cleared out so that you aren’t making it run with 82 tabs in the background (guilty. I stress my husband out so much). And not only that, it is a wonderful time to clear your mind. There are things we can control and things we can’t control in life. What we can control is obvious. Let’s do our best! As for the things we can’t control, let them go. One of my favorite phrases to say and remind me to detach from the unnecessary is “If it doesn’t matter in 5 years, don’t spend more than 5 minutes worrying about it.”

I have severe anxiety and depression so of course my brain likes to remind of mistakes I have made regularly and especially as I am laying down in bed to sleep. I have been working on turning off those thoughts when I am in bed. I even force myself to think about other things. You may not always be successful, but you can at least give it a try! Your brain is a muscle and you have to train it. Having a clear and grounded mind is going to do more for your magical Craft than any crystal or herb.

A cluttered altar can sometimes make the intention of spell difficult to focus on. Too many representations can skew the direction you are trying to go in. Go through your altar and give it a good wipe down! Take off seasonal items and put them up for now. Remove old offerings and give yourself permission to rearrange your altar into something that makes your soul happy, not something that follows what people ‘think’ an altar should look like.

Life Can Be Chaotic

I know I have been absent for the last few weeks. I have had a lot going on in my personal life and luckily for me, some of it is fantastic! Some days it is hard to get out of bed, some days it is hard to eat because you are not hungry, and some days it is hard just to EXIST. Those days will come and go and we will continue trying to be the best most magical version of ourselves we can. To anyone who is struggling with mental health, finances, physical health, their job, or even relationships, I see you. I see you trying hard and making it day by day and that is wonderful! Just keep on going because things will get better. I am finally back so look forward to more posts in the future! Not just Tarot spreads! I promise!

New Moon New Beginnings Spell

The new moon is a wonderful time to make new goals and bring intention into your life. I participate in a very large pagan service every Sunday here in San Antonio and so I opened it up to the students to drop their new moon intentions into the bowl and I would burn them in the evening. (Spell below). I do read them just in case of suicidal ideations as I am a mandatory reporter and while there was none of that, it really made me realize that people’s basic needs are not being met. Work on mental health/anxiety, find love, learn to love myself, fix my finances, get out of debt, take care of my family, learn real skills, let go of people who don’t care about me, get stronger, and happiness were some of the most repeated. We always talk about how there is a mental health crisis in not just the U.S., but the world and this really drove that home. I hope that every one of them gets their wishes granted with the new moon because everyone deserves happiness.

Ingredients:
Something to write with
Something to write on
Bay leaves
Dandelion root
Fireproof area to burn your intentions
Lighter/matches

First, write out what your new intentions are. They can be as simple or as complex as you want. However, the simpler the better. It makes it easier to concentrate on it later on. By writing out your intentions, you are now commiting to it as an end goal, not just a hopeful wish. Place your paper in the fireproof location. You could also write your wishes on the bay leaves themselves. That is another fantastic way of performing this spell. Next you will cover the paper in bay (or add more bay to the fireproof area if you want to increase the spell’s effectiveness) and add dandelion as well. Finally, set all of it on fire. Paper and dried bay leaves are highly flammable so make sure you do this safely. Allow everything to burn and release your intentions up into the universe until it is nothing but ash.

Witch Tip: Use those ashes for later happiness spells or to create black salt afterwards.
