What would you like….?

The holidays are upon us and although this meme is rather amusing, it is also very accurate. Many people enjoy getting gifts but sometimes what they really need is utilities paid or food. With inflation and rising food costs, a week’s worth of groceries for a family of 4 can go a long way. My home is quite full, having been collecting delights for the last 35 years of my life. When I got married, my husband brought anything I didn’t have into our relationship. We don’t really need ‘stuff’. I always appreciate anything that people gift me because it shows they care but consider your friends and family around you and what they truly need. Food? Rent? Medications? No matter what holiday you celebrate, be it Saturnalia, Chanukah, Quanza, Yule, or Christmas, you can always do good for someone.

This year, 3 Cats and a Cauldron will be doing a fund raiser at our places of physical work to try and gather items and necessities for shelter animals. Around January and February shelters become clogged with ‘cute gift animals’ that people bought for children or spouses, not realizing what a commitment they are before dropping them off at a shelter. A kitten is a 15-20 year commitment. A puppy is a 15-25 year commitment. Bunnies, birds, snakes, and even turtles require proper care, nutrition, socialization, and enrichment. We will always do our best to only take on the animals we are capable of caring for but not everyone makes that judgement call before getting an animal. So this year, we are going to do our part to help out a shelter in need and give back to the community!

What good can you do for those around you?
